DIETITIAN'S ADVICE FOR WEIGHT LOSS!

Eating healthy and maintaining weight has always been a difficult task, especially when lifestyle has become so busy. Everyone out there is swamped with work and duties but don't you think that somewhere in between this hectic schedule and busy lifestyle, we are neglecting our health, our major asset? Remember u can earn enough money if you are physically and mentally fit but u can't earn the health which is once lost! yeah, u read it right, it doesn't work the other way round! obesity, overweight are the major problems which every third person is facing. Don't worry, today i'll not just address the problem but will also provide you with the unbeatable solutions!








































But before i dive into the problems and their solutions , let us first discuss what does the term 'overweight' mean and what are it's causes:












OVERWEIGHT-Being overweight or fat is having more body fat than is optimally healthy. It is more common where food supplies are plentiful and lifestyle is sedentary. According to National Institute of Health, overweight is a BMI of 27.3% or more for women and 27.8% or more for men


Causes of overweight-


  • Unhealthy eating habits
  • More calorie intake and less calorie burn
  • Not engaging in any physical activity
  • Genetics
  • Stress, poor sleep,emotional factors
  • Medications
  • Leptin resistance

I had a small interactive session with the famous consultant dietitian Mrs. Deepika sharma , she is practicing at Manipal Hospital, Jaipur(Raj.). she gives personalised diet plans to clients according to their height, weight and all body requirements and after taking into account their medical conditions. I asked her a few questions  about lifestyle changes and weight loss tips and some healthy diet routines which one must follow. So, here we go!


 

  1. Hello, Mrs. Deepika! Please tell our readers a bit about yourself and your profession.

       Hello! I am a Consultant Dietitian and I'm practicing at Manipal Hospital, Jaipur(Raj.) where I counsel patients regarding their health issues.

2. What motivated you to choose this profession?

A variety of factors reportedly influence people's decisions to pursue a career in dietetics, including gender socialization, an interest in science and nutrition, experience with personal or family illness or an eating disorder, a desire to help others. 

3. What is your opinion about today's busy lifestyle and unhealthy eating habits of people?

 I feel that modern busy lifestyle, convenience, limited time to exercise and skipping meals or disliking cooking and eating packed and processed food, etc. all such factors are shaping lifestyle these days and people being more neglect about this are gaining weight and also suffering from other diseases.

Unhealthy eating habits include- skipping breakfast, binge eating, having unhealthy snacks, grabbing soda, chips, candy, or coffee all day, sleeping less, smoking, alcohol and many more.

4. Obesity is a very common problem nowadays. Can you explain about it and it's causes?

 Obesity means having too much body fat. It is different from being overweight, which means weighing too much. The weight may come from muscle, bone, fat, and/or body water. Both terms mean that a person's weight is greater than what's considered  healthy for his or her height.
Obesity happens over time when you eat more calories than you use. The balance between calories-in and calories-out differs for each person. Factors that might affect your weight include your genetic makeup, overeating, eating high-fat foods, and not being physically active.

5. Can you suggest a few weight-loss tips which one can follow even in their busy schedule?


 Sure, there are few tips which can be easily followed! 
  • Enough sleeping 
  • Never skip meals
  •  More fiber intake
  •  Less stress 
  • High intensity workout and 
  • Avoid junk food.

 Sure, there are a lot of such fruits and vegetables which can help to reduce weight significantly:
  • Fruits- Apple, orange, guava, Kiwi, Pomegranate.
  • Vegetables- Tricolors bell peppers, beans, carrot, pumpkin, cucumber, asparagus, bottle gourd & many more.

7. According to you how many meals one should have in a day?

There should be 3 meals and 2 essential intakes:

  • Breakfast - Healthy and heavy breakfast (Milk is essential)
  • Mid Morning- Fruits and some antioxidants
  • Lunch- Normal (Chapati, Salad, buttermilk, veg)
  • Evening- Antioxidants, some seeds and nuts
  • Dinner- Light dinner and can be salad also

8. What are the food and drinks which you think must be a part of everybody's diet?

9. Please tell us about your biggest achievement in your dietitian career.

 Well, am still trying to give my best to my clients and I constantly try to transform my clients into more healthy and confident personalities.
My biggest achievement ever is-
 One of my client lost her 20 Kg weight in 5 months and also relieved from some health issues like Diabetes, thyroid and gastro problems.

 My one and only advice is to make your health a priority.
If health is not good then wealth is no worthy.
